About Our Renovations: Rec Hall & Showers
The 2016 camping season begins in just a few days! With the upcoming season upon us we wanted to send a gracious “Welcome back!” to our returning campers and a joyful “Welcome!” to our new families joining us this year. We are thrilled to begin another summer full of camping fun! To kick things off online this year, we wanted share some information about a few of our ongoing renovation projects. In this blog post we are sharing information about the renovations to our recreation (rec) hall and shower rooms.
A little background on Forest Lake Campground
Lloyd and Leona Sutton had vision to share the relaxing space they call home with others by building a family campground. Construction on the buildings and grounds, (including an 8-acre lake) was done in the 1960s and Forest Lake Campground opened in 1969. The Sutton family is proud to have shared our peaceful spot atop the hills in Truxton, N.Y. with camping families for 47 years.
About the renovations to our Rec Hall and shower rooms…
Our oldest building, and first to get a major renovation is our recreation hall which also includes the campground’s shower rooms. In the first phase of the renovation, hemlock posts and beams are being added inside the building. The post and beam look will update this space to give it a warm rustic touch.
To keep our operating costs low, we use self sustaining practices whenever possible. For the rec hall renovations, we are using lumber harvested from hemlock trees grown on the property. After the hemlock trees were harvested, we used our sawmill to produced much of the lumber needed for construction. This includes the large posts and beams that will be a focal point of the rustic structure.
The second phase of the interior renovations to the recreation hall involves updating and modernizing the restrooms and showers. As part of the renovation a new family restroom with a shower will be added. We believe the family restroom will make it easier for families with young children, as well as those who care for others in need of assistance.
The renovations to the rec hall began in 2015 and will continue this season.
